The Grand Palais

Happy New Year!

We're back...sort of. While we have moved "successfully" across town, we're still inundated by "stuff" and the trials and tribulations (and joys) of moving into a new place, along with the various responsibilities of selling an "old" house.

So, posting will be sporadic at best for awhile.

But, we wanted to thank all of our special friends in the photoblogging world for wishing us well at Christmas and giving us such great support during our move. We deeply appreciate your concern and your kind words.

In return and in gratitude, we send our best wishes to each of you for a wonderful New Year!

[We'll repeat this message on our other blogs. If you check Ocala Daily Photo, you'll find a photo of the entrance to our new community - Stone Creek, in Ocala.]

Maintaining the Eiffel Tower

Maintenance is an ongoing affair at the Eiffel Tower. Bolts have to be tightened and it has to be painted - massive jobs. This sculpture pays homage to those men who risk their lives to take care of these things.

Will you marry me?

He came over to our table in the Eiffel Tower restaurant surreptitiously and whispered, "Hi, we're from Germany. I'm going to ask my girlfriend to marry me. Would you take a picture of me proposing?"

Well, who could say "No" to that?

So, he proposed and I took a picture. She said "Yes!" Everyone applauded.

And they lived happily ever after. We hope.

Travel via Segway

We found a number of people traveling around Paris on Segways. They were relatively inexpensive to rent, and could move you from place to place quite easily and safely.

Sainte-Chapelle

Commissioned by Louis IX in 1242 to be royal chapel and a repository for the relics of Christ's passion, including the crown of thorns, Sainte-Chapelle is considered today to contain the most beautiful stained glass in all of Europe.

De Venus

I know, everybody's seen this photo a hundred times, but do you know how hard it is to get a good picture of de Milo? This one was sheer luck, as usually there are people knee-deep to Versailles and back standing in front, snapping photos, waving their arms (probably 'cause Venus doesn't have any), lifting kids on their shoulders, jumping up and down...

Chateau de Versailles poster

Cieldequimper at Versailles Daily Photo has posted several beautiful photos of fountains, statuary and fireworks in recent days. It is my understanding that this event is held each summer. This photo was taken, obviously, in 2007, and I believe it is advertising the same event.

If not, I'll ask Cieldequimper to correct me.
