From what I have heard, La Seine is still considered a major shipping waterway in Europe. This is a typical shipping barge.

Great photo! I didn't know the Seine was a major waterway. Hmmm.
A great vacation idea is to travel the length of La Seine from Le Havre to Marcilly-sur-Seine on a private barge. Or even just from Paris to Le Havre.
