Travel via Segway

We found a number of people traveling around Paris on Segways. They were relatively inexpensive to rent, and could move you from place to place quite easily and safely.

I have no idea why I find it so amusing that the riders all have helmets. I'm thinking the pedestrians should have them too, in case they get mowed down by a Segway.
They certainly look like a lot of fun. Have you tried one?

To 'move safely' in Paris is a quite relative and debatable concept, but your photo is really good and funny!

@ Sunny...nope never have tried one. Want to, though. The police have been using them here in the downtown area...

@ VP - Very funny, and very true. Of course, the same could be said of Rome. The most harrowing ride of my life occurred in Rome coming in from the airport ... I was convinced I was going to die ... it was about 3 a.m. and the guy didn't even slow down at cross streets... Yikes!

Too funny! I've never seen one of these in person. Glad to see they're being used somewhere-- I remember when we all thought the segway was going to revolutionize transportation forever, and I haven't heard of it since!

did you try them. I hear they are nearly impossible to tip over and fun to ride.

@ bfarr - No, we didn't try them. I've always wanted to...if we get back to Paris I think we'll rent them for a few hours...

In all my years in Paris, I've seen maybe two or three of these things rolling about. I think they're great for people who aren't quite as mobile as they'd like to be. I've been away for a couple of weeks having a small adventure. If you'd like, you can read about it here: http://lerevefrancais.blogspot.com/
