I love all this ornate stuff. Have never been to Versailles. It must be incredible.

I love the ornate buildings and decor, but usually tend to gravitate to the older and simpler first. And it's so easy to run out of time! I do hope to get to Versailles someday.

Yes, Tapirgal, it is truly incredible. We could have spent several days there...but our time was limited. And two years ago at this time it was bitter cold!

I have a feeling you would thoroughly enjoy going through the interior...I'll have more photos in the coming days...

Speaking of which - have a great day today!

Wonderful shot of the over-the-top opulence of the French nobility. There was no end to the incredible lifestyle and regal consumption. Seeing how they lived is beyond imagining. I guess we're lucky we can still find all of these palaces and their artwork and furnishing intact and open to the public. (And this was not their main residence!!) Don't we all have our summer and winter palaces? (Cabins don't count.)

Speaking of over-the-top lifestyles, Princess Di once had an argument with her bf, who then flew off to NYC. The princess wanted to convey an apology to him. Sooo, instead of sending a telegram or and email, or even a phone call...she wrote a note, gave it to a servant, bought him a ticket on the Concorde and sent him to deliver her message. And one knows what a ticket on the Concorde used to cost.
