Les Quatre Parties due Monde Soutenant la Sphere


The Four Parts of the World Supporting the Sphere, in bronze, by Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux, is considered "the centerpiece of the Musee d'Orsay's lobby entrance," and was "modeled after a fountain in the Jardin du Luxembourg."

The thing I find most interesting about this picture are the kids who are apparently enjoying the experience.

It's huge! Long ago people used to think that the world was somehow supported by elephants or a giant turtle... :) Silly humans!
